Diagnostic criteria

Criterion to diagnose cystic fibrosis have been established. These are listed below.

You MUST have ONE of the following:

1. 1 or more of the following typical symptoms:

Chronic sinopulmonary disease

Characteristic GI/nutritional abnormalities

Salt loss syndrome

Obstructive azospermia

OR

2.  History of CF in a sibling

OR

3.  Positive newborn screening test (IRT)

PLUS one of:

1. Elevated sweat chloride (>60 on ≥2 occasions)

OR

2.  Identification of CFTR disease causing mutation

OR

3.  An abnormal ion transport across nasal epithelium
